Buffel Grass
Keeping one of Australia’s worst weeds out of the Victorian Mallee.
Buffel Grass (Cenchrus ciliaris)
The project
Stop it before it starts
Buffel Grass (Cenchrus ciliaris) is one of Australia’s most destructive invasive plants: well established and devastating in other states, but not yet widespread in Victoria. We want to keep it that way.
Buffel Grass outcompetes native plants, alters fire regimes, and can transform diverse Mallee woodland into a monoculture that is almost impossible to restore. We’re working to monitor its spread, support on-ground control, and build community awareness before it gets a foothold in the Victorian Mallee.
You can help. Learn to identify it, report every sighting, and download our free Buffel Buster information pack.
